What is GPON technology?

GPON (Gigabit passive optical network) technology has grown strongly in Brazil, Russia and India. In China, technology has already placed the country at the top of the list of leaders in Information Technology (IT), prepared by the World Economic Forum.

GPON, a passive optical network with Gigabit capability, can be technically defined as fiber optic technology that allows for greater transmission and reception of data through a single fiber. The architecture is point-multipoint, which allows 'fiber to the home' (FTTH), or fiber to the end user's residence, and 'fiber to the building' (FTTB), where the fiber goes to a specific site and the Distribution to subscribers is done through an Ethernet network using the coaxial cable or the copper pair as the medium.

It is one of the high-speed transmission technologies that has attracted the most attention from the telecommunications market, it is currently used in solutions aimed at serving both residential and corporate markets that require greater bandwidth.

Huawei is a leader in the GPON optical network market in Russia, India and China. Represented in Brazil by INOVAX, Huawei is already the main supplier of this equipment also to Brazil.
