4th ANSP Semester Meeting discusses Network-Cloud Convergence

It will be held at USP Medical School in the days October 29, 30 and 31 the fourth edition of Semiannual Meetings of the Academic Network of São Paulo (ANSP), with support from INOVAX. The event will discuss the "Network-Cloud Convergence" and its implications for educational and research institutions in the State of São Paulo.

The concept of SDN (Software Defined Networking) or Defined Networks (created, organized, configured) by Software, has been increasingly established in network communities, in particular, in internal data center networks. In the university and research environment, the idea of software-defined networks, with the methods associated mainly with the OpenFlow protocol, gains strength as an alternative to the chaos generated by the management of hundreds or sometimes thousands of VLANs (Virtual Local Area Network) necessary for large international computational projects, such as in the areas of High Energy Physics and Astronomy.

Simultaneously, the idea of computational cloud is established in all markets as an alternative to support and security problems in companies that are not in the area of computing or networks but use computers as the basis of their business. This also applies to the university and research sectors, plus the hope that the cloud will solve the problem of optimal sharing of very large, high-performance and high-cost computing resources.

In the State of São Paulo, the main research universities are beginning to create their computing clouds and their computing centers have been discussing software-defined networks for some time. Projects such as the USP Cloud, the FIBER (Future Internet Testbeds Experimentation between Brazil and Europe) which, in São Paulo, involves CPqD, RNP, UFSCar and USP, and the ANSP OpenFlow project, which involves most research universities in São Paulo, are examples of this trend.

INOVAX is at the forefront of several initiatives to create computational clouds in academic environments. Among them, the design, implementation, support and operation of Data Center containers at Mackenzi Universityeeo PCloud Computing Project of the National Teaching and Research Network (RNP) in Brazil.

In this edition of the event, INOVAX COO Manoel Alberto Rodrigues Neto will give the lecture “Development of national communication control and security technology”.
